The order of activating Jetpack on a Pressable hosting plan is apparently important! I have attempted this for about 20 different websites running on Pressable, and each time I needed Pressable support to help guide me through it and even then, it took 4-5 attempts. Until this time, Jess from Pressable provided some instructions that worked for me the first time I tried them! (I still had to guess at a couple of the steps, taking what felt like an optional leap of faith) but I chose wisely or luckily or it didn’t matter and it worked!

Step 0 – DO NOT PAY FOR ANYTHING EXTRA. KEEP YOUR CREDIT CARD PUT AWAY.Ā  šŸ™‚ Pressable plans include a free Premium level Jetpack subscription, it comes with your Pressable hosting. These steps will help you activate that plan and give you access to backups and more via Jetpack.Ā  Thereā€™s a momentary step (Step 5) where it might appear that you need to pay. DO NOT PAY.Ā  šŸ™‚ It is just the way this activation process works between Jetpack (Automatic the company behind WordPress & Jetpack)Ā  & Pressable the hosting company.

Step 1 – in wp-admin install and activate jetpack plugin

Step 2 – Click the Green (as of jan 2019) Activate button for jetpack inside the plugin in wordpress

Step 3 – This will take you to WordPress.com‘s Jetpack activation process. You will need a WordPress account (free user id) and once you have that and are signed in, then

Step 4 – ā€˜Approve the connection between Jetpack the plugin and your personal WordPress.com user account

Step 5 – This will take you to a payment plan option. There appear to be 3 BUT Thereā€™s a fourth below the three. Choose the fourth option, the ā€˜Freeā€™ plan (later you will get the $99 plan as part of your Pressable service, but first we connect with the Free plan and later get the Premium one upgraded by Pressable. (this is a bit confusing, just do not put a credit card anywhere and you will be good!

Step 6 – After clicking Free it takes you back into your WordPress Admin jetpack dashboard

Step 7 – Login into my.pressable.com

Step 8Ā – go to the domain plan that you are working on (you may have more than one website with Pressable, pick the one that relates to the steps above

Step 9 –Ā  Find the Activate Jetpack button in my.pressable.com and click itĀ  (If this is a new account, it may be a (different) green button at the top of my.pressable.com.Ā  There may be a second Activate button lower on that page. They do the same thing. You only need to click one of them. Do that – click Activate!

Step 10 – Confirm you now have a Premium Jetpack plan from Pressable – In your wordpress admin area, click on Jetpack and click on the ā€˜My Plansā€™ tab. It should now show you that your ā€˜planā€™ is the Premium plan. (If you entered a credit card anywhere, you made a mistake!)

If Jetpack doesn’t show the new plan…

First, clear the cache on your browser and refresh your wp-admin page to check again.

If it still doesn’t show up, you may need to send in a help request or chat with Pressable support. Even though the steps above are working for me much more often than before, there may be other reasons to get help!

Video Transcripts
okay so I’m trying to get jetpack set up
00:04
on a pressable installation I always
00:08
have problems with this and just Nunez
00:12
from principal sport sent me this
00:14
explainer so far this is actually the
00:17
best explainer I’ve seen and I’m gonna
00:20
test it to see if I can follow the
00:21
instructions and make it work so first
00:25
step and just to point out the jetpack
00:30
in the my press valaria has not been
00:33
activated yet jetpacks not set up
00:36
WordPress either so her instructions are
00:39
to go into WordPress and follow the
00:43
connection details there and then after
00:46
all of that is done go into my pressable
00:48
and hit activate so I think maybe I’ve
00:52
done it in both directions before but
00:54
I’m not positive maybe I’ve done it in
00:56
Reverse so we’re gonna give this a try
00:58
so coming in here we’re in WordPress
01:04
admin I’m gonna set up jetpack and I’m
01:07
recording this to help capture the
01:09
process of casing it goes wrong now I
01:11
have a wordpress.com account till it
01:16
always connects automatically to that
01:18
the instructions didn’t say to use any
01:20
other account I just said to connect and
01:22
so I have this I’ve had it since like
01:24
two thousand seven or eight or something
01:26
like that a long time so I’m gonna hit
01:29
approve it’s gonna authorize the
01:31
connection for this website and
01:39
initially it shows this now premium is
01:45
included with pressable WordPress
01:48
hosting but since it hasn’t been
01:51
activated yet it still shows the amount
01:53
that would be charged I’m not going to
01:54
pay for that I’m not gonna put my credit
01:55
card in there so I’m going with start
01:59
with free now just a reminder these were
02:05
the instructions go here and follow the
02:07
connection details I think I’ve done
02:09
that but I’m also guessing as I do
02:11
that so maybe I’m Gus incorrectly maybe
02:13
I’m guessing incorrectly
02:16
okay so load it up here get my pressable
02:24
going in there okay scrolling down going
02:37
to settings for this account and there’s
02:40
the activate button there at the top and
02:43
I believe there’s a second one down here
02:46
I don’t know if it matters which one I
02:50
push press it says press the green
02:54
activate button this is the only green
02:58
one so I’ll stick with that
03:00
so I activate there and says it’s
03:05
activating now in my experience this
03:08
doesn’t necessarily mean that it has
03:09
worked I often see it activated from my
03:13
principles perspective but not
03:14
necessarily in WordPress and the past
03:17
have had to talk to principal support
03:22
multiple times every time I’ve ever done
03:24
this so far that’s on about 28 different
03:26
accounts to get it to actually work and
03:29
that usually takes multiple efforts per
03:31
account so I’m really crossing my
03:34
fingers and hoping that this works and
03:38
this process this step whatever so I’ve
03:42
got the spinny thingy going on seen that
03:45
and it’s now says jetpack premium was
03:48
successfully activated again I’ve seen
03:49
that before
03:50
and it doesn’t necessarily mean that it
03:52
was activated and you can see down here
03:54
pressable is partnered with jetpack to
03:57
provide you a jetpack and its activated
04:00
on your site this one says activating so
04:03
just out of curiosity I’m going to
04:06
refresh this page the thing at the top
04:09
goes away this now says activated so and
04:13
I’ve seen all this before and it’s and
04:15
still after seeing that it didn’t
04:16
necessarily work I’m gonna come back in
04:19
here and to WordPress
04:26
let’s see this is a relatively new site
04:30
to WordPress we’ve migrated it over from
04:32
a different completely different type of
04:34
system custom system what we got here
04:43
looks like it’s still connected as me
04:48
look at the plans maybe try and find
04:53
something that shows premium running is
04:56
what my goal is and it sort of looks
04:59
like this may have worked my current
05:03
plan which is the premium one the middle
05:07
one the $99 one and I think it has
05:11
worked so I think it’s worked I’m
05:18
impressed
05:19
this is the first time I’ve had
05:20
instructions to follow that worked and I
05:23
think it’s key instructions to follow
05:25
that’s a big improvement so I’m happy
05:27
about that I’d love to see those get
05:30
worked in over here with some little
05:32
nice tip thing or an instruction guide
05:34
or something like the instructions that
05:36
they have for adding a domain name but
05:42
this is progress I’ve been looking for
05:44
this progress for a long time Thank You
05:46
principal team thank you jetpack team
